About Us
Flame Bird vineyard was established by the owners, Wayne and Lorraine in 2002. Although the site for the vineyard provided many challenges, it has a north facing slope making it ideal for vines. The three varieties, sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon have also allowed other wine styles, such as, rose, sweet, port and a sparkling to be created.
All requirements of the vineyard are tended to by the owners. The vines are hand pruned and with the help of local labour, the fruit is hand picked. The vineyard is maintained in harmony with nature as much as possible and it is a pleasure to see the many lady birds, frogs, spiders, bees and dragon flies make themselves at home.
Flame Bird is located at the end of Roberts Road which offers peace and quiet interrupted only by the sound of Treen Brook, which runs through the property, and the songs of numerous birds such as, kookaburras, magpies and wrens. The vineyard itself overlooks a stretch of state forest and purpose built marron ponds. Marron are bred and may be purchased throughout the year depending on availability.
Visitors are welcome at the cellar door which is officially open Wednesday to Sunday but we are happy to see anyone any time when we are there. Time permitting we will show visitors around and children may be able to collect eggs and feed the sheep.
